Manchester United players learn of Erik ten Hag’s qualities as pre-season begins

Here are your Manchester United evening headlines for Monday, June 27.

Erik ten Hag has arrived at United's Carrington training complex for the first day of pre-season training.

Ten Hag was driven into Carrington at 8am, around two hours before United's non-internationals are due to report. Steve McClaren, one of Ten Hag's assistants along with Mitchell van der Gaag, also returned to Carrington for the first time as a United coach since May 2001.

McClaren used the facilities as assistant to England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson between 2001-06 and then during his own tenure as Eriksson's successor. The United players who featured in the round of June internationals are due to start pre-season training next Monday

United’s players will be dealing with a perfectionist in every sense of the word as they meet Ten Hag for the first time this week.

A number of United’s senior squad will be making their return to training this week as the club begin their pre-season preparations. 15 players, including the likes of David de Gea, Luke Shaw, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford are expected to report back to Carrington on Monday morning.

There, they will train for the first time under their new manager, with Ten Hag beginning his tenure in earnest. It will be an opportunity for some of United’s players to catch the eye of the Dutchman early, and put what was a disastrous season behind them.
