Manchester United player ratings as Amad and Bruno Fernandes excellent vs Newcastle

Manchester United beat Newcastle 3-1 in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

The home side took the lead in the first half as Kobbie Mainoo was afforded far too much space in the penalty area before finding the back of the net.

Newcastle pushed for an equaliser and they were rewarded shortly after half-time when Anthony Gordon tapped home from close range.

The visitors were level for just eight minutes as Amad restored United’s lead just before the hour mark. Newcastle pushed for another equaliser but United made sure of the three points as Rasmus Hojlund scored just minutes after coming off the bench. Lewis Hall's late strike made it 3-2 late on.

Here’s how the players rated at Old Trafford:

Andre Onana

Distributed well as United opted to go long more often than not and cannot be held to account for Anthony Gordon's goal. Made two key saves at 2-1. 7

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Just about kept up with the livewire Gordon in the first half but never had the measure of the Newcastle winger. 5

Casemiro

Recovered from a rocky start but foiled Gordon and then Dan Burn with a goal line clearance at 1-0. A better day than Sunday. 7

Jonny Evans

Coped admirably up against the admittedly off-colour Alexander Isak. Another fine performance against one of the league's big hitters. 7

Diogo Dalot

Solid at both ends without making much of a difference but did little wrong all night. 6

Sofyan Amrabat

Was steady until he gave the ball away and he could have given away a penalty on Gordon. Recovered with a vital block to stop Isak from making it 2-1 to Newcastle. 8

Kobbie Mainoo

Continued his improvement next
