Manchester United player could make first start for a staggering 420 days against Newcastle
Manchester United will play Newcastle in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
United drew 2-2 with Lyon in the Europa League quarter-final first leg earlier in the week and will try to return to winning ways against a confident Newcastle side at St. James' Park.
Newcastle won the Carabao Cup against Liverpool at Wembley last month and are looking to secure Champions League qualification, which suggests the visit will be tricky for United.
So without further ado, here are five things to look for in the game.
Remember when Luke Shaw last started a game for United? Shaw last started against Luton on February 18, 2024, meaning he hasn't started for his club in a staggering 420 days.
Shaw did make three appearances from the bench for United in November against Ipswich, Bodo/Glimt and Everton, but he picked up a "minor" injury and went missing again.
The defender recently returned to fitness and it's hoped he remains a clean bill of health for the remainder of the season. Shaw is yet play a minute since his return, but that could change this weekend because it would be logical to start him on the left of the back-three against Newcastle.
Noussair Mazraoui has played almost every game for United and Shaw could replace him in the starting side. If he does, Shaw will be desperate to come through the game unscathed.
Andre Onana is concerned he will lose his starting place against Newcastle this weekend and rightly so. He talked a big game before facing Lyon and was then at fault for both goals.
Onana's mistake for Lyon's opening goal was particularly awful and it would be no surprise to see Altay Bayindir step in at St. James' Park, although he hasn't been convincing, either.
Bayindir produced an inspired shot-stopping display
