Manchester United need to rely on one of their biggest strengths under Erik ten Hag vs Chelsea

For all of Manchester United's faults away from home under Erik ten Hag, their Premier League home record under his stewardship is worthy of applause.

After 26 Premier League home games under his guidance so far, United have amassed 60 points from a possible 78. The Reds won 48 points on their own patch last season and have added another 12 to their tally so far this term.

After losing 2-1 to Brighton & Hove Albion in Ten Hag's first competitive game in charge on the opening day of the 2022/23 Premier League season, United went the rest of the season unbeaten at Old Trafford in the league, winning 15 of their 19 home games in total. Only Manchester City won more points (52) at home in the top flight last season.

United, who will be desperate to get back to winning ways when they welcome Chelsea to M16 this evening, were only stopped from winning at Old Trafford in the league last season by Brighton, Newcastle United (0-0), Leeds United (2-2) and Southampton (0-0). When you consider it is the Premier League's elite they struggle so much against away from home, last season's home record was something worthy of praise.

United defeated Arsenal (3-1), Chelsea (4-1), Liverpool (2-1), City (2-1) and Tottenham Hotspur (2-0) on their own patch last season. By comparison, United took just two points from a possible 15 against those five aforementioned teams on the road.
