Manchester United must resist obvious Alejandro Garnacho temptation

Manchester United were dull and devoid of attacking options for an hour at Wembley over the weekend. Then they brought Alejandro Garnacho on.

Last season, the 18-year-old lit up the FA Youth Cup final with a magnificent brace that inspired United to victory. A year later, he was needed by the first team to rekindle their spark instead.

Garnacho had changed his phone screensaver to a picture of the iconic trophy ahead of the FA Cup final, but that would prove to be the closest he'd get to it on a day when his side were clearly second-best.

Few players have experienced a rise so meteoric in such a short space of time, with Garnacho almost effortlessly transitioning from teenage hopeful to senior starlet.

It was that raw youthful energy that made him so lethal against Manchester City under the Wembley arch. While other attackers wilted under the pressure and looked scared to ever get on the ball, Garnacho played with a fearless freedom that jolted the opposition backline.

Within ten minutes of his introduction, he almost had an equalising goal when he cut inside onto his stronger right foot, only to fire a ferocious missle just wide of the far post.

This was the latest sign of the immense potential Garnacho has, though it was also an unpolished cameo that was a reminder he has a lot of work to do if he is ever going to fulfill it.
