Manchester United considering making Alejandro Garnacho their new number seven

Manchester United are considering making Alejandro Garnacho their new number seven as his stratospheric rise continues.

Garnacho, 18, only made his first-team debut against Chelsea in April last year but he has already established himself as one of United's most captivating forwards.

The No.7 was vacated by Cristiano Ronaldo in November when he forced his departure and Garnacho, who currently dons the number 49, signed a five-year contract in April.

Garnacho would become the first teenage recipient of the No.7 since Ronaldo in 2003.

United's most fabled squad number has been 'cursed' since Ronaldo first left in 2009. Michael Owen, Antonio Valencia, Angel Di Maria, Memphis Depay, Alexis Sanchez and Edinson Cavani all disappointed while Ronaldo's second stint ended acrimoniously.

Garnacho started for United for the first time against FC Sheriff in October and he scored his first professional goal against Real Sociedad in the Europa League the following week.

The Madrid-born winger also scored winners against Fulham and West Ham in the Premier League and FA Cup, as well as clinchers in the 2-0 victories over Leeds and Wolves.

Garnacho emerged for his long-awaited national team debut for Argentina against Australia earlier this month, having missed their matches in March with an ankle injury.

United signed Garnacho from Atletico Madrid when he was a 16-year-old in September 2020 and he was named the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year for the 2021-22 season.

Garnacho plundered eight goals in seven FA Youth Cup games, including two in United's first final triumph in 11 years against Nottingham Forest in May 2022.

United manager Erik ten Hag included Garnacho in the pre-season tour
