Manchester United might have already missed out on perfect Viktor Gyokeres alternative

Manchester United's major transfer priority is to sign a new striker this summer but that striker won't be Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres.

Reports emerged on Sunday that Arsenal are in advanced talks to sign the Sweden international and it is believed the deal is heading towards reaching a conclusion.

United had been heavily linked with a move for the former Coventry City forward given Gyokeres played under Ruben Amorim at Sporting but his next destination looks likely to be North London instead.

It means United's search for a new forward will take them elsewhere and they have been linked with moves for the likes of Napoli forward Victor Osimhen, Eintracht Frankfurt hitman Hugo Ekitike, Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins and even free agent Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

But they have perhaps missed the opportunity to sign a perfect Gyokeres alternative.

Nick Woltemade lit up the European under-21 championships this summer, scoring six goals to win the Golden Boot and fire Germany through to the final of the tournament.

And using DataMB's player similarity generator tool to bring up players with similar characteristics to Gyokeres, Woltemade shows up as one of the top five options.

The 23-year-old scored 17 goals in all competitions for Stuttgart last season and stands at six foot six inches tall.

He might have been a perfect solution for United to consider but it is believed he has already agreed personal terms on a move to Bayern Munich.

While the two clubs are yet to agree a fee, it is thought that Woltemade is ready to make the move to the Alianz Arena, whether it is this summer or the next.
