Manchester United might have already identified their perfect Harry Kane transfer alternative

After a couple of weeks of stagnation and frustration, Manchester United are about to announce their arrival in the summer transfer window.

Following no shortage of discussions, United have agreed a £60million deal with Chelsea to sign midfielder Mason Mount. It is understood that the Reds will pay £55m up-front and an additional £5m in add-ons.

Should everything with his medical go according to plan, Mount will become United's first signing of the summer, hopefully marking a turning point in the club's recruitment drive. Manager Erik ten Hag is desperate to upgrade his squad with fresh talent and the additions of a new goalkeeper and a world-class striker are poised to be the next tasks to complete on his to-do list.

Heading into this window, United, above all else, had prioritised the addition of a new striker. They struggled to blow teams away in the most recent campaign and it was blindingly obvious to everyone that they were lacking a world-class presence at the top end of the pitch.

Ten Hag installed Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane as his top target as far back as March, but there is a growing feeling that Spurs will refuse to sell the England captain, despite his contract being up next summer. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is a tricky customer to negotiate with and it remains to be seen if United will test his and the Londoners' resolve.

Should they be prepared to, it is highly likely that United will have to wait on until late on in the window to stand any chance of luring Kane to Old Trafford. How long will the Reds be willing to wait, though? That is the question.

In an ideal world, they need to try and get their house in order as soon as possible.
