Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag makes admission on Alejandro Garnacho Marcus Rashford dilemma

Erik ten Hag claims Marcus Rashford enjoys playing on the right flank amid stiff competition for his place in the Manchester United side.

Alejandro Garnacho has started the last six games in Rashford's favoured role on the left and the 19-year-old has scored in the last two matches against Everton and Galatasaray.

Rashford was absent from the starting line-up in three of the last six fixtures against Newcastle, Fulham and Galatasaray due to rotation, injury and suspension.

Ten Hag accommodated Garnacho and Rashford in the same XI against Copenhagen, Luton Town and Everton, with Rashford on the right-hand side rather than in his preferred role on the opposite wing.

Rashford ended a 12-game goal drought for United from the penalty spot at Goodison Park last week but he has managed only one goal from open play in 17 club games this term.

Antony, recalled for the first time in four games in midweek against Galatasaray, impressed in Istanbul and the Brazilian is usually Ten Hag's favoured pick on the right.

Garnacho's form has raised the prospect of Ten Hag omitting Rashford from the side at Newcastle on Saturday night, though Ten Hag was reluctant to entertain the notion at his press conference.
