Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag refuses to blame Andre Onana after Galatasaray mistakes

Erik ten Hag refused to blame Andre Onana for Manchester United's latest capitulation in the Champions League in their pulsating 3-3 draw with Galatasaray.

Onana was deceived by Hakim Ziyech's first-half free-kick and he catastrophically fumbled in a second dead-ball strike by Ziyech that trimmed United's lead again in the second half.

The goalkeeper was also porous for Kerem Aktürkoğlu's 71st-minute equaliser and that denied United a win that would have elevated them to second in Group A. United have conceded 14 goals in their five group games and remain at the foot of the group.

United's group stage campaign has been rife with errors by Onana, who was also culpable for goals in the defeats to Bayern Munich and Galatasaray in the reverse fixture.

United have to beat Bayern in their final group game and hope Copenhagen do not beat Bayern on Wednesday evening and that they draw with Galatasaray in a fortnight.

“Andre is okay," Ten Hag said. "As I said, it is not about individuals. Of course, individual errors in football can make a difference and you take responsibility for it but it is always about the team.

"This team is good, all the players in the squad are good and deserve the best to play for Manchester United because they are brilliant players. And that counts for the whole squad.

“I think as a team we played very well. We win and lose together. You see the progress in this team. I take many positives from this game.
