Manchester United make decision on former Liverpool talent after electric start for academy

Manchester United youngster Ethan Ennis will not leave on loan in this transfer window.

The Manchester Evening News exclusively revealed last month that Ennis had signed a new United contract, as his previous deal with the club expired in the summer of 2025.

It's understood United have decided it's best for Ennis' development for him to spend the first half of the season with the Under-21s before the situation is assessed in January.

Ennis returned from a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his knee in October but has impressively got back up to speed.

Ennis scored in the U21s' opening game of the season against Arsenal and scored again on Tuesday night when producing the goal that sparked a 3-2 comeback against Barnsley.

The 19-year-old has started the new season in great form, scoring two goals in two appearances, and his professionalism in and out of training hasn't gone unnoticed at United.

Although some speculated that Ennis would leave on loan this summer after signing his new contract, he will continue to be an integral U21 player and could be allowed to leave on a temporary deal to challenge himself in a senior environment in the January window.

There were high hopes for Ennis when United signed him from rivals Liverpool and his minutes were carefully handled last season, which helped him return to full fitness.
