Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney booed off before making brutal Birmingham admission

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney was booed off by some Birmingham City fans after their 2-0 loss to Hull City in the Championship.

The Blues were sixth under former manager John Eustace before the international break. They now sit in 12th position after back-to-back defeats in Rooney's first two matches and the home supporters made their feelings known with a series of jeers and verbal attacks towards the former England striker.

The downturn in results has coincided with Rooney’s start as the new manager of the club. He is trying to implement a more attacking philosophy that looks as though it will need time for players to adjust to.

Asked if the Birmingham players told him they feel uncomfortable with the adjustment to his new style, Rooney admitted to BirminghamLive: “Yes (they have). That’s my job now to deal with that and fix that. I have to come up with a way that they are comfortable with playing whilst trying to implement how I want to play.

“This is what I said to the players, ‘Be honest with me, if you don’t feel comfortable you can tell me, we can adjust, we can adapt’. It’s something for me to look at, am I asking too much, too soon? Can we adjust slightly what we are trying to do?"

To rub salt into his wounds, it was Rooney's former assistant manager, Liam Rosenior, who got the better over him as Hull's manager. The new Blues boss admitted that his side need to make big strides and made comparisons to Rosenior's setup with the Tigers.
