Manchester United legend labels derby performance against Man City as 'strange'

Former Manchester United defender and club legend John O'Shea has labelled their loss to city rivals Manchester City as 'strange'.

United were dominated by City in the 4-1 loss on Sunday with two goals each from Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez either side of the half-time interval were enough to record a comfortable victory. The win meant that City completed a league double over their United, as Jadon Sancho gave United their only positive moment after De Bruyne's fifth-minute opener.

United were second best in every department, being outplayed across the field - with a period in the second-half showing that United had just eight per cent. The loss leaves United one point behind Arsenal in the Premier League table, with the Gunners having a massive three games in hand to potentially build a comfortable lead in the battle for that all-important fourth spot to secure Champions League football.

And O'Shea, who won five Premier Leagues with United, has spoken on what he found puzzling about the game. He also questioned what happened to his former team in the second half, when they showed little to no threat of coming back into the game.

Speaking on the BBC, he said: "It was tough to watch, but you hold your hands up sometimes when you see how good City were in the second half. Also, it was strange how United were able to compete in the first half, so the difference in the two halves tells you where the two teams are at the moment.
