Manchester United legend Gary Neville embarks on 'mini-retirement time' after long season

Manchester United great Gary Neville made headlines earlier this year for his unique take on what most of us call going on a holiday.

United legend Neville hung up his boots in 2011 after making more than 600 appearances for his beloved Reds. In that time he won the Premier League on eight occasions, three FA Cups and League Cups, as well as the Champions League twice.

The 48-year-old has been a busy man since stopping playing, however. He has become a pundit with Sky Sports, a co-owner of League Two side Salford City, and had a brief but disastrous foray into management with Spanish side Valencia.

The former right-back also has a number of business ventures in and around Manchester. With all the commitments he has, a break is needed from time to time.

Neville explained how he keeps the balance when speaking on The Diary Of A CEO Podcast with Steven Bartlett of Dragons' Den. He gave his unique take on approaching a holiday. He labelled it a 'mini-retirement'.

He said: "But what you can have is mini-retirements during the year, and that's what I've tried to do. I don't do it very well.

"So for instance, this weekend I'm going to Spain Friday until Monday morning. That's like a mini-retirement."

Bartlett responded in a confused manner saying 'that's a weekend'. Social media users have subsequently found the funny side of the former right-back's take on having a break from work and jetting off to a sunny climate.
