Manchester United learn Roberto De Zerbi compensation fee as Chelsea impact clear

Manchester United have been told the compensation fee that they would need to pay to appoint Roberto De Zerbi as their next manager.

Erik ten Hag is currently in charge at Old Trafford and is still looking to provide success this season. United are in the quarter-final of the FA Cup and still challenging for a place in the Premier League's top four.

However, finishing bottom of their Champions League group has meant no European football at all in the second half of the season. United are also 11 points adrift of fourth-placed Aston Villa with 11 fixtures left to play.

This reality has led to increasing pressure on Ten Hag's future as United manager. MEN Sport reported on February 27 that new co-owners Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos Group have already analysed potential replacements for Ten Hag in the event the Dutchman leaves Old Trafford in the next few months.

It's understood that De Zerbi has emerged as a potential candidate to be the next United manager should the Old Trafford hierarchy decide to make a change. The Brighton manager is also understood to be a possible successor to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City when the time comes for him to leave the Etihad Stadium.

Now a report from The Telegraph has provided an update on De Zerbi's future at Brighton. It has been claimed that it would cost United north of £12 million in compensation to prise him from the Amax Stadium.
