Manchester United learn Frenkie de Jong price tag as Barcelona stance emerges and other rumours

Manchester United reportedly face a battle with Chelsea to sign Frenkie de Jong.

According to Spanish news outlet Sport, the London club have joined United in showing an interest in signing De Jong this summer. The Netherlands international has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford ever since Erik ten Hag was appointed as manager in 2022.

The report goes on to say that Paris Saint-Germain are also competing with United and Chelsea for the signing of De Jong. It has been claimed that the 25-year-old is open to the idea of leaving Camp Nou, with Barcelona likely to demand a fee over €100 million (£85 million).

De Jong joined Barca in 2019 from Ajax for £65 million but has still been linked with a move away from the La Liga giants in subsequent transfer windows. Despite this, the midfielder has remained at the Camp Nou but there has been increased speculation around his future in recent weeks.

Barca manager Xavi is set to leave the club at the end of the season, which will add more uncertainty to the Spanish giants. Despite the speculation, the report adds that Barcelona would like to keep De Jong at the club, with suggestions of a new contract running until 2029 being offered.

Elsewhere, Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo has addressed speculation about his future amid links with United. The centre-back was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford last summer, and the rumours emerged again in the January transfer window.
