Manchester United issue update on pre-season tour plans

Manchester United are close to confirming details of their first pre-season tour in three years this summer.

United haven't been on a pre-season tour since the summer of 2019, when they travelled to Australia, China and Singapore under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Money-spinning pre-season tours were off the table in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic, but with travel restrictions easing United will be going overseas this summer.

They haven't played a friendly outside of the United Kingdom since their last tour but reports in Thailand have suggested they will play Liverpool in Bangkok on July 12.

That could mean another tour of the Far East for United, with details set to be confirmed soon.

Collette Roche, chief operating officer at United, said: "We're in the final stages of planning for our pre-season tour, we expect to confirm destination and opponents soon."

United's final Premier League game of this season takes place on Sunday, May 22, with the Champions League final in Paris on Saturday, May 28.

The 2022/23 season begins on August 6, with the earlier start date a result of the season being paused in November and December for the World Cup in Qatar.
