Manchester United interested in 'unhappy' Robert Lewandowski and more transfer rumours

Manchester United are primed to strike if the 'unhappy' Robert Lewandowski decides to leave Bayern Munich, according to reports.

Though a defensive-midfielder is thought to be the top target, United may well be in the market for a striker this summer. The club have a lack of out-and-out strikers in their squad as it is and Edinson Cavani looks likely to leave when his contract expires while Cristiano Ronaldo's future is also uncertain.

The Manchester Evening News understands that the club have already moved to acquire a new striker and have made initial enquiries with French club Lyon over striker Moussa Dembele. The former Celtic man is one of several options being looked at, too.

The latest to be linked, though it seems massively unrealistic, is Bayern star Lewandowski. Despite now being 33, the Pole remains at the height of his powers and has a remarkable 42 goals to his name already this season. However, his contract in Munich does expire in 2023 and there is speculation that there is unrest over the situation.

Bild reporter Tobi Altschaffl said on the Bayern Insider podcast that Lewandowski is unhappy at the Allianz and that United could make a move if he decides to leave. “I can say with certainty that they are interested," he said.

“They have been interested in Lewandowski before, but that doesn’t mean that he will sign for United in the next few weeks. It’s not like that.

“Pini Zahavi is exchanging with many teams. United have said that they would be interested if a situation arose that he could leave Munich. We know from the reporting of the last few days and weeks apparently that anything is possible for now. He is unhappy.”
