Manchester United holding talks over three players and AFCON

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag would not confirm when Andre Onana is due to join up with the Cameroon national squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Onana has started in all 27 of United's matches so far this season and fellow summer goalkeeping signing Altay Bayindir is still yet to make his debut.

Bayindir could come into the team for the FA Cup third round tie against Wigan on January 8 but it is unclear if United will delay Onana's departure as Cameroon's first game is on January 15.

Cameroon are due to hold a training camp next week while Sofyan Amrabat has been called up to the Morocco squad. Hannibal Mejbri asked to be omitted from Tunisia's squad.

"The situation is that we're talking," Ten Hag said. "We have good relationships with all the federations, it's about Sofyan, it's about Hannibal, it's about Andre, so we're talking with them."

Mejbri tweeted on Thursday night: "Thanks to coach Jalel Kadri and the institution for their support. You can only participate in such a competition by being ready and calm in your role. Courage to my teammates."

Amrabat has not started in United's last two games as Ten Hag has favoured Kobbie Mainoo in central midfield. Christian Eriksen has also recovered from a knee problem and started in the Boxing Day win over Aston Villa.
