Manchester United have three priorities after securing Luke Shaw future

There's no rest for the wicked and Manchester United will be getting very little of it in the summer.

Erik ten Hag has made a great start to life at Old Trafford and has quickly gone about soaring past the targets set for him. The trophy drought is over, two more tournaments could be won this season and United are on course to return to the Champions League.

But it's a process, a journey, and United are not where they want to be yet. Despite the transformation and progress, they're not at the level to launch a genuine and sustained title challenge. That will be the aim next season though and in order to get there more smart and lavish spending in the market will be required. It won't be easy work.

A striker is a necessity. United are the lowest scorers in the top four by some distance and the likes of Brighton and Brentford have scored more. They have become too reliant on Marcus Rashford to score from the flanks and need a man to lead the line and be clinical when chances come his way.

Harry Kane is the prime target and though he would be a sensational signing, he will not come easily. Tottenham will not let him go without a fight or a massive transfer fee despite being in the final year of his contract and Daniel Levy has tended to avoid selling to Premier League rivals if he can help it.

Even the alternatives United have scouted - Victor Osimhen, Goncalo Ramos, Rasmus Hojlund, Mohammed Kudus - all play for clubs renowned for getting every possible penny out of a departing player. United have set their sights high on their hunt for a midfielder too and want to be in the race for Jude Bellingham.
