Manchester United have a starting XI of unavailable players after latest injury blow

Erik ten Hag emphasises the importance of having a squad and insists setbacks are part of football when he's asked about injuries during Manchester United press conferences, but he must be lamenting his luck behind closed doors.

There's been an injury crisis at Old Trafford since the start of the season and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who picked up an injury in a substitute appearance against Brighton at the weekend, is the latest to join those who are sidelined.

It was confirmed on Monday afternoon that Wan-Bissaka is facing a spell on the sidelines for 'several weeks' and that a further assessment is required to determine the exact length of time he'll be unavailable.

Wan-Bissaka was named on the bench against Brighton on Saturday afternoon because he'd been unwell in the days leading up to the game, but prior to the weekend, he'd started every league game so far in this campaign.

The defender has made excellent progress and his absence will be felt. Sergio Reguilon and Diogo Dalot will retain their starting roles against Bayern Munich on Wednesday and fans will be hoping to survive that game without any more injuries.

There are so many players now unavailable that you can actually make a starting line-up consisting of those players. That team would also surely be capable of finishing above some of the relegation fodder in the Premier League.

The 11-man unavailable XI:

Antony and Jadon Sancho are obviously not injured but they're currently unavailable for selection. They represent close to £160million worth of talent and Brighton's starting team on Saturday was worth just £16.2m, for context.
