Manchester United 'got away with one' as Liverpool legend lashes out with 'proper team' jibe

Liverpool legend Phil Thompson says Manchester United are still not a proper team and has exposed the 'gulf' between the sides.

United had to settle for a point after leading 2-1 at Old Trafford. Bruno Fernandes cancelled out Luis Diaz's opener, while Kobbie Mainoo handed the hosts the lead shortly after the hour mark.

Mohamed Salah then made no mistake from the spot to maintain their title hopes alive. Jurgen Klopp's side are second in the table but level on points with Arsenal, who have a better goal difference.

United meanwhile, remain sixth and 11 points from Aston Villa in fifth place with six games left to play. Speaking post-match, Thompson believes the gulf between the two clubs has never been bigger than what it is now.

He told on LFC TV: "The gulf between individuals, the players, the mentality, the physique, the knowledge. The gulf between the two sides has never been greater. They’ve got away with one today. They were fortunate, it is a chance missed by us.

"You look at them and say ‘wow, they are still not a proper team’. You get carried away about getting that draw, you’ve got real problems and that has been the problem because they think they are better than what they are."
