Manchester United given Thomas Frank response with clear line they cannot cross in next manager hunt

Simon Jordan believes Thomas Frank is a 'very capable' Premier League coach after the Brentford boss was linked to the vacant Manchester United job, but warns a move to Old Trafford will be a significant step up.

Erik ten Hag is Man United manager no more, after the 54-year-old was relieved of his duties this Monday lunchtime. A club statement confirmed the decision alongside notice that one his assistants, former striker for the club Ruud van Nistelrooy, is to take interim charge of the team 'whilst a permanent head coach is recruited'.

With no suggestion as to how long this process will take, or who is in the running, the next decision from Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the board will be eagerly awaited. All that can be drawn upon is the fact that several managers were spoken to during the summer, and were ultimately not acted upon.

One name being suggested from the get-go is current coach of Premier League rivals Brentford, Frank. The Dane has overseen their promotion from the Championship to the top-flight, then has managed to comfortably keep them in the division on three occasions now.

"I think he's a very capable manager. There's been many instances of managers being capable in environments where the expectations are much lower," pundit Jordan explained on talkSPORT.

"There are lots of questions, how can there not be questions about Thomas Frank? He operates brilliantly, he talks with the media brilliantly, he's been given a huge opportunity with Brentford to succeed the base built there by Dean Smith and others previously.

"He's done really well and most of the things that come out of his mouth are enjoyable to listen to."
