Manchester United given summer transfer window order that depends on two things

Manchester United fans have big expectations for the summer transfer window and have set incredibly high demands of the club.

Erik ten Hag brought his side a long way in his first year in charge. United ended their trophy drought by lifting the Carabao Cup, booked their return to Champions League football and started making fans believe in them once again.

But that's just the start and the manager has far loftier ambitions. But if they want to compete for the Premier League title with Manchester City or have a chance of winning Europe's top prize then they need serious investment.

MEN Sport has been asking readers over the last few weeks to take part in our big end-of-season survey to give their view on every aspect of the club. Of the 31,685 responders a massive 78 per cent believe the club must spend at least £200million this summer. Given the club's ownership situation is still in flux and haven't yet made the sales they need to bring in extra funds, that might be a little optimistic.

20 per cent think between £101m-200m would be ideal with the remaining two per cent thinking even less should be spent. Additionally, 46 per cent think four signings would be enough, 35 per cent thinks it needs to be 5+ and 17 per cent want only three.

A number of positions are in need of strengthening. A new striker is the biggest priority after United struggled in front of goal last season and relied heavily on Marcus Rashford. Harry Kane was outlined as the top target ahead of the window with the Tottenham talisman in the final year of his contract but it quickly became clear Daniel Levy was unlikely to sell.
