Manchester United given 'important' Mathys Tel transfer update as Bayern Munich plan revealed
Bayern Munich have provided an update on Manchester United-linked Mathys Tel.
The striker has asked to leave Bayern in the January transfer window, having made just 14 appearances across all competitions this season for Vincent Kompany's side. Kompany has used England captain Harry Kane as Bayern's sole striker for much of the campaign, leaving Tel to look for opportunities elsewhere.
United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Tottenham are said to have shown interest, with the latter reportedly exploring a £50million deal. The Reds' PSR position will almost certainly restrict them to a loan deal, particularly with Lecce's Patrick Dorgu set to sign for a reported £31.4m fee.
And Bayern boss Kompany has had his say on Tel at the club's pre-match press conference before Saturday's game against Holstein Kiel.
"The most important thing is that Mathys is still a Bayern player," he said. "Every player is fully available until the last moment. My role is, as always, to use the players who are available."
Bayern sporting director Max Eberl added: “Mathys is still a Bayern player. Accordingly, if he's there tomorrow, he will hopefully be looking to score goals.
"That remains the case at the moment. There's no new situation.”
United's current strikers, Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund, have yet to fully impress at Old Trafford. The pair have only managed to net a combined total of 11 goals in all competitions this season.
Meanwhile, Tel has yet to find the back of the net in 14 appearances and has only one assist to his name. However, with the 19-year-old being used sparingly under Kompany, United will be hopeful that with more consistent playing time, he can discover his goalscoring prowess.
