Manchester United given clear run as Premier League rivals 'agree club-record fee'

Manchester United's hopes of landing Ivan Toney have been given a major boost amid news Tottenham are closing in on Dominic Solanke.

With Rasmus Hojlund ruled out for around six weeks, United are keen to sign another centre forward and it's understood they're considering a swoop for Toney. The Brentford ace could be available for as little as £40million given his contract with the Bees expires next year.

Toney, 28, has been linked with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham in the past, but with Arsenal exploring other targets, Chelsea on the verge of signing Atletico Madrid's Samu Omorodion, and Spurs pushing to sign Solanke, the Red Devils appear to have a free run at the England international.

According to The Athletic, Solanke has agreed personal terms with Tottenham, who are close to agreeing a club-record deal for the 26-year-old. The former Chelsea and Liverpool forward has a £65m release clause in his Bournemouth contract and it's understood Spurs are prepared to offer the Cherries a sum close to that figure.

The north London club are yet to sign a replacement for Harry Kane 12 months on from his £100m move to Bayern Munich. Though judging by Ange Postecoglou's recent comments, the reason for the delay is that Tottenham have simply been waiting for the right candidate.
