Manchester United give major Mason Mount injury update and Marcus Rashford team news

Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount has been ruled out for "several weeks" with a muscular injury.

Mount came off in the 14th minute of United's 2-1 victory at Manchester City on Sunday and visited a specialist on Wednesday to determine the severity of the injury. United are unable to provide a specific timescale on Mount's return until further assessments are carried out.

The 25-year-old has played in 33 games out of a possible 78 since he joined United from Chelsea for £60million in July 2023 and Mount's latest setback is the seventh separate injury lay-off he has had at the club.

"Several weeks," United head coach Ruben Amorim confirmed when asked about the length of Mount's absence. "I don't know the exact date but it's going to be for long and that's it. That's part of football, you continue."

Mount made 14 appearances during his final five months with Chelsea due to pelvic problems and his injury issues have become more severe at United. He was absent for 31 of United's 52 matches last term and sustained a hamstring injury in the first half of the second Premier League match of this season at Brighton in August.

United's medical department have come under scrutiny in the past 18 months amid a growing injury toll and Amorim suggested they were obliged to get to the bottom of Mount's constant breakdowns.
