Manchester United get Viktor Gyokeres transfer discount as next club 'decided'

An update has emerged on Manchester United's reported interest in Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres.

United have been heavily linked with signing a new striker for several weeks, although they did not bring in such a player during the January transfer window. Bayern Munich star Mathys Tel was rumoured to be a target for United before the 19-year-old chose to join Tottenham Hotspur on loan instead.

Gyokeres has been a player mentioned on the United rumour mill ever since his former boss at Sporting Lisbon Ruben Amorim was named as the club's head coach back in November. The striker has scored 33 goals for Sporting this season and is likely to be one of the most sought after players in Europe this summer.

According to the i Paper, United still have an interest in signing Gyokeres and even weighed up the possibility of submitting an offer during the January window. However, Sporting were apparently demanding the full £83million release clause for the striker, a fee which United were not prepared to pay.

Instead, though, Sporting will apparently lower their asking price for Gyokeres this summer. United will reportedly have the chance to sign the striker for £60million when the transfer window reopens at the end of the season, handing a major boost to the Reds.

The update comes after The Sun reported in November that Gyokeres has already "decided" that he wants to join United in the summer and reunite with Amorim. It's not just United that have been linked with signing Gyokeres, though, with Arsenal reportedly long-time admirers of the Sweden international.
