Manchester United get Mason Mount injury boost before Liverpool FC fixture

Manchester United have confirmed that midfielder Mason Mount has resumed training at Carrington ahead of this weekend's FA Cup clash with Liverpool.

The England international, 25, has been on the sidelines since November because of a calf injury. He last featured for United in their 1-0 win over Luton Town at Old Trafford on November 11.

Mount resumed light training as far back as the end of December but has not made progress as quickly as he would have liked. Injuries have hampered his maiden season in M16, limiting him to just 12 appearances in all competitions thus far.

United signed Mount from Chelsea last July in a deal that could end up costing the club £60million, but his debut season at Old Trafford has seen him spend more time on the treatment table than on the pitch. He has played just eight times in the Premier League.

United have said Mount has 'worked closely with the club’s medical staff' during his rehabilitation period, displaying an excellent work ethic. Despite issuing an encouraging update on his current situation, the club has not put a specific date on when he could return.

However, manager Erik ten Hag, speaking at last Friday's pre-Everton press conference, suggested that he could be available for the trip to Brentford after the international break. The Reds face the Bees at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday, March 30.

Speaking last week, Ten Hag said: "Mason Mount, I think he is in a good spell now and he will return shortly. I think after the international break."
