Manchester United finally have a midfielder to bring them 'joy' this season

Kobbie Mainoo was the youngest player on the pitch at Anfield but looked like someone with over 200 senior appearances. Mainoo is so laidback he is almost horizontal.

Many wondered whether starting against Liverpool would be a step too soon for Mainoo, but he was excellent and it's refreshing to see a United midfielder playing with such composure. Mainoo has made three starts at some of England's most atmospheric grounds, Goodison Park, St. James' Park and Anfield, over the last month and he's passed each test with flying colours.

He was equally unfazed when making an appearance from the bench against Galatasaray in the Champions League. He possesses an unflappable temperament, which is bound to take him far in his career.

Even before he made his first-team debut, those who know him best said he will play for England in the future and the youngster's recent appearances have left supporters wondering where his ceiling is.

Mainoo's potential is vast and the calls for him to start each week are getting louder. He might only be 18 years old, but he improves the midfield when he plays and Erik ten Hag must use him more.

"He did very good," said Ten Hag about Mainoo after his performance against Liverpool. "I'm sure he'll adjust quickly to the high intensity of the Premier League because then he'll be even better.

"He will be even more calm and his scanning, his capabilities on the ball, will bring the team so much joy. When you are good enough, you are old enough and he proved that."
