Manchester United fans send message on future of Old Trafford

Manchester United supporters are keen to see their club moving in the right direction off the pitch as well as on it.

The majority of fans believe Old Trafford is in need of upgrades and a revamp or even that a new build is actually required. The Theatre of Dreams was left out of the UK & Ireland’s Euro 2028 bid with the club stating that there could be potential renovation works carried out at the stadium during the period of the tournament.

A statement earlier this month said: “Manchester United were pleased to put Old Trafford forward as a potential host of UEFA Euro 2028 matches and proud of the strong case we made.

“However, during follow-up discussions with the FA, it became clear that we were unable to provide the necessary certainty around the availability of Old Trafford due to potential redevelopment of the stadium. As a result, we have mutually agreed to withdraw from the shortlist of potential hosts.

“We are committed to maintaining Old Trafford’s status as the largest and most iconic club football ground in England and look forward to future opportunities to host international matches and major events at ‘the Theatre of Dreams’.

“Everyone at Manchester United wishes the FA the best of luck with the bid to host the tournament in 2028.”

A number of supporters previously told the Manchester Evening News in January what they would like to see done to Old Trafford to help it catch up with the other leading grounds of the Premier League.

United are mulling over a number of possibilities, including rotating the stadium if a new build is erected, although the club is keen not to lose the atmosphere within Old Trafford as has been witnessed at several other rivals.
