Manchester United fans react to West Ham's Declan Rice transfer valuation

Erik ten Hag has now been confirmed as the next permanent manager of Manchester United to the delight of many fans. However, now that fans know who is going to be in the dugout, the fanbase has now moved on to transfers.

United will need to address several areas in the summer transfer window, especially given that Ten Hag has a specific style of play that he wants to implement. And at the top of that list for many fans will be a new defensive midfielder.

Declan Rice has been linked with a move to Old Trafford since the time of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but it seems unlikely that they will be able to sign him this summer. According to The Athletic, West Ham United do not want to sell Rice until 2023 to try and attain a £150m fee for the English midfielder.

£150m would be a record fee in the Premier League and for many clubs would be the entirety of their budget. And many United fans think that a fee like that is too much for any player, let alone a defensive midfielder.

This is especially difficult for United to understand spending so much money when reports in Spain are linking the club to Frenkie de Jong for around £59m. Kalvin Phillips has also been linked for around £50-60m and Boubacar Kamara is available on a free transfer as his contract is expiring in the summer.

Fans have been very vocal about the proposed price tag on social media and their opinions on the signing. Here is a selection of United fans' comments from Twitter:
