Manchester United fans jokingly call for Erling Haaland FA Cup final ban after Sky Sports forced to apologise

Some Manchester United fans were quick to recall Wayne Rooney's two-match suspension for swearing into a TV camera in 2011 after Erling Haaland told Jack Grealish he 'f****** loved' him during a Sky Sports interview.

Following the trophy presentation at the Etihad Stadium, Grealish conducted a post-match interview with Sky Sports and was chatting to the likes of Roy Keane and Micah Richards. As he was doing that, City's players were celebrating on the pitch and parading the Premier League trophy around the stadium.

Haaland, though, broke off from those celebrations to come and have a word and an embrace with Grealish, both of whom were named on the bench for the 1-0 win over Chelsea. The Norwegian came over to hug the former Aston Villa ace and ended up swearing on live TV.

Haaland said: "I f****** love you, you know that." That prompted a huge laugh from Grealish and forced Sky Sports presenter David Jones into apologising for Haaland's choice of words.

Haaland's actions immediately prompted some United fans to recall an incident from 12 years ago when Rooney was banned after swearing into a TV camera during a goal celebration. Rooney was suspended for two matches after scoring a hat-trick in a win over West Ham United, resulting in him missing an FA Cup semi-final against City at Wembley, which United were beaten in by a goal to nil.

At the time, it felt like a very harsh decision from the Football Association, who imposed the ban, with others not having had similar punishments since. Though it is highly unlikely, some United fans have now called for the FA to take similar action against Haaland, though their pleas do feel a bit tongue-in-cheek.
