Manchester United fans don't know what to think as Reds activate 'Frenkie de Jong transfer process'

Not all Manchester United supporters are convinced after reports in Spain emerged to suggest that the club has 'activated proceedings' to try and sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News last month, United are weighing up a big-money bid for the midfielder, who stepped off the bench to help the Netherlands beat Wales 2-1 in the Nations League on Wednesday evening. Speculation concerning his future has been mounting over the last few weeks as United look to strengthen their midfield options this summer.

Barcelona head coach Xavi has reiterated his desire on several occasions to keep hold of the 25-year-old, but club president Joan Laporta last week admitted last week that he could be sold to help the club financially. De Jong joined the Spanish giants from Ajax in 2019 and is considered as one of their most sellable assets.

Barcelona paid £65million for De Jong three years ago and are likely to want to make a significant profit. United boss Erik ten Hag is eager to be reunited with the former Ajax ace and is understood to have reached out to his agent to try and pull off a deal.
