Manchester United fans deliver damning verdict on Premier League top-four hopes after Burnley defeat

Manchester United’s fans are not confident they will finish in the top four this season after their hopes took a major blow on Tuesday night.

United had been placed in the final Champions League place in the Premier League table before Tuesday’s night’s clash with Burnley, after what had been an almost-perfect final weekend before the international break.

Having beaten West Ham and seen both Arsenal and Tottenham dropping points, Ralf Rangnick’s side held the advantage in the race, but they blew their chances to remain in the top four at Turf Moor as they were held to a 1-1 draw, having held the lead.

West Ham now sit one point ahead of them, while the Gunners and Spurs – both three points behind United – have two and three games in hand respectively, meaning they could potentially pull ahead once all four sides are restored to parity.

With their hopes of silverware all-but over this season, it is imperative that United finish in the top four in order to salvage some credibility from the campaign, but their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League next season lie in the balance.

And it seems supporters aren’t very confident they’ll be hearing that iconic theme at Old Trafford next season.

In a poll run by the Manchester Evening News , we asked fans whether their opinion had changed on whether United would finish in the top four this season.

Over 3,700 of you responded, and the results don’t make for pretty reading for Rangnick’s men.

Of those who voted, 47.8 per cent said their opinion had not changed, and that United won’t make the top four.

That goes alongside the 17.6 per cent of fans who said their opinion had changed, but agreed that they won’t secure a top-four finish.
