Manchester United fans announce fresh protest for complete removal of Glazer ownership

Manchester United supporter group The 1958 have announced fresh plans for an anti-Glazer protest this weekend which is looking to remove their total involvement with the club.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is set to buy a 25 percent stake in United, and although he has long-term plans to take total control, he will initially be working with the Glazers rather than replacing them.

While the change in ownership is viewed as a small step in the right direction, The 1958 have made it clear that they will only be happy once United's current owners are no longer involved with the club in any way.

The fan group have asked for supporters to congregate at the North West Quadrant towards the back of the Stretford End at 2pm ahead of Saturday’s home game against Luton Town in a peaceful protest for a full sale only.

Spokesman Steve Crompton says demonstrations were recently paused due to the passing of Sir Bobby Charlton but that the ‘fight remains in full force’.

“We believe the last 12 months has proved beyond any doubt that the Glazers only care about one thing; cold hard cash. They are not fit to be custodians of one of the world's most iconic football institutions. But they cannot buy the love we hold for OUR club,” Crompton said in a statement.

“We call on supporters around the world to stand united with us, at Old Trafford on Saturday and also via our website https://claimbackunited.the1958.net."

The fan group have also raised their concern at the club's debt as well as a feeling that normal match-going fans are being marginalised in favour of corporate hospitality.
