Manchester United dressing room's reaction to Sir Bobby Charlton's death

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has revealed how difficult the last few days have been for himself and his teammates following the death of Sir Bobby Charlton.

The World Cup winner and United legend died at the age of 86 last Saturday prior to the Reds' trip to Sheffield United in the Premier League. Before kick-off, a minute's applause was observed at Bramall Lane which was followed by further tributes ahead of the victory over FC Copenhagen in the Champions League.

Further commemorations are planned on Sunday before the derby against Manchester City. After what has been an emotional week for those of a Red persuasion, Rashford told rapper Aitch for Sky Sports how the squad has processed the death of the icon.

"It has been a difficult week, especially for the club and Sir Bobby's family," Rashford explained. "For me, he has always been an unbelievably talented footballer but he is also such a great person and a big fan of United - he has followed United ever since he stopped playing for the club.

"Especially being part of the academy, he has always been close to us and there will have been random times when I have been playing out on the training pitch and he came and watched. Because of that, he has always been connected with the club and he has never really been too far away.

"Up until maybe lockdown, he came to every single home game and as many away games as he can - it didn't go unnoticed for the players. Even the lads who have come in, they all know who he is and have a lot of respect for him.
