'My dog can dress me, pick up the post and even do the LAUNDRY - she's incredible'

The love of a pet can help keep us company, decrease stress and even improve heart health. But there are some clever pooches out there that can do much more than that – even going as far as doing the laundry.

That’s not the only service Ruby can perform for her owner Andrea Jack, who has an inflammatory form of arthritis.

The labradoodle can pick up items from the floor of her Wigan home, open and closes doors and even help the 51-year-old dress.

Andrea, who lives in the Orrell area, got Ruby as a pet in 2014 when she was just six-months-old. But just three months after welcoming the pooch into her home, she suffered a painful flare-up and was later diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis. The chronic condition is severe and affects the joints and skin.

She set about applying to Support Dogs, a charity which trains and provides registered assistance dogs to improve the lives of children and adults across the UK, to have Ruby trained to help her with day-to-day tasks.

Not only that, the disability dog also jets off to conferences with customer experience manager Andrea for work – making her the ‘paw-fect’ employee.

“Having Ruby with me when I travel for work has enabled me to manage independently staying in hotels,” Andrea said.

“She helps me to get undressed at the end of the day, for example pulling off my socks and trousers, plus she picks up dropped items for me, including my walking stick/pole.

“Ruby has travelled to Ireland on the ferry and has even been trained to fly with me in the cabin of the aircraft, which entailed extra training
