Manchester United discover Europa League quarter-final and possible semi-final opponents

Manchester United will play Sevilla in the Europa League quarter-finals after Erik ten Hag's side were drawn against the Spanish side on Friday afternoon.

The Reds progressed to the last eight of the competition after securing a 5-1 aggregate victory over fellow Spanish outfit Real Betis in the last 16. Ten Hag's men won 4-1 at Old Trafford in the first leg last week, before coming away from Spain with a 1-0 victory on Thursday night.

United have not won any of their competitive matches against Sevilla. They have not come up against the La Liga side since 2020. Should they advance, the Reds will meet either Juventus - whose squad includes former United midfielder Paul Pogba - or Sporting Lisbon in the semi-finals.

The quarter-finals will be held on April 13 and April 20. The winners of those ties will then compete in the semi-finals, scheduled for May 11 and May 18, ahead of the final in Budapest, Hungary on May 31.

Speaking after United's last-16 triumph over Betis, Reds manager Ten Hag said: "I know in the start of the game it can be very difficult because they were going to try, and try to get quickly to 1-0 but we don’t allow them. That is what we did.

"We needed the first goal. First half, we had some chances and we allowed them to get some counter-attacks, so we had to be a little bit more calm on the ball and we did that in the second half.

"Don’t light up the stadium. The first thing we saw was some noise at the start of the match because we allowed them some transition moments, so once you score the first goal the game is gone, and they don’t have the belief anymore. You have to manage that.
