Manchester United defender confirms exit with heartfelt goodbye message

Di'Shon Bernard confirmed his departure from Manchester United with a heartfelt message posted on social media on Monday.

The Manchester Evening News reported earlier in the day that the 22-year-old was set to leave United ahead of the summer transfer window.

His contract expired at the end of the season, with the Reds opting against actioning an option to extend it for another 12 months. He is now free to sign with a new club permanently this summer.

The defender spent the second half of last season on loan at League One side Portsmouth, who are one of several sides interested in a move when the window opens on Wednesday.

Confirming his exit on Monday, Bernard posted a picture on Instagram with the caption: "Although my time @manchesterunited has come to an end, I am nothing but proud of my journey so far with all the experiences and all the achievements I’ve accomplished along the way.

"I would like to say a big thank you to all the staff I have come across who met me as a young boy and have taught me so many lessons and have helped me grow into the man I am today.

"To my teammates, you guys are my brothers for life I want to thank you guys for pushing me everyday and making me a better player for it. The experiences and memories I’ve made with you guys will live with me forever.

"I’m now excited to see where this next chapter in my life takes me".

Bernard leaves United having made just one appearance for the senior side, against Astana in the 2019/2020 Europa League group stage.
