Manchester United could use Arsenal’s own transfer trick against them to land USMNT striker

Manchester United are trying to do something this summer that Arsenal managed to successfully achieve a year ago.

With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang having left six months prior for Barcelona and Alexandre Lacazette’s contract expired and the striker bound for Lyon, Mikel Arteta needed a new centre-forward. The Gunners had struggled for goals the season before with just Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe the only players to make it to double figures, neither one being a centre-forward.

Something had to be done, and Arteta made the bold move to turn to one of his Premier League rivals to solve the problem. Gabriel Jesus arrived at the Emirates from Manchester City for a fee of £45million and immediately hit the ground running.

The Brazilian’s goals helped fire Arsenal up the table as the Gunners mounted an unlikely Premier League title charge. Jesus finished the season with a highly-respectable 19 goals in all competitions for Arsenal, despite sitting out injured between December and March.

It’s a situation United now find themselves in as they hunt for their own top-class centre-forward to take the club to the next level after only Marcus Rashfordand Bruno Fernandes made it to double figures last term. Again, neither is a centre-forward.

One option that could be explored is Arsenal’s own Folarin Balogun. The US Men’s National Team striker scored 22 goals in 39 games while out on loan at Ligue 1 side Rennes last season, but could still be available for a move this summer despite those efforts.
