Manchester United confirm date for FA Cup quarter-final against Liverpool

Manchester United will play Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup at Old Trafford on Sunday, March 17.

United won 1-0 against Nottingham Forest in the fifth round of the competition earlier this week after a late headed goal from Casemiro, which ensured progression to the quarter-finals.

Liverpool comfortably defeated Southampton 3-0 at Anfield and Jurgen Klopp's side will now make the trip to Old Trafford to take on United for a place in the semi-finals of the FA Cup in just over two weeks' time, with the game set to be shown live on ITV1 on Sunday, March 17.

The derby clash has been pencilled in for a 15:30 GMT kick-off time on the Sunday afternoon and United will want to keep their hopes of winning the FA Cup alive.

After exiting the Champions League and Carabao Cup before Christmas, the FA Cup is the only remaining revenue for silverware this season and Erik ten Hag has spoken of its importance.

Liverpool are top of the Premier League and they lifted the Carabao Cup with a win over Chelsea last month, following Klopp's announcement this would be his last season in charge.

United last played Liverpool in December and the game ended as a goalless draw at Anfield, with Ten Hag praising his players for delivering a spirited defensive performance.

Speaking after the win against Nottingham Forest, Ten Hag said: “Now we have Liverpool at home, it’s a fantastic draw, we are looking forward [to it].

“But we have to bury the cup, and first we are looking forward to the league, and the first game is always the most important. It’s a good game, [against Manchester] City, and we are looking forward to that.”
