Manchester United confirm 23-man squad vs Atletico Madrid as two first team players return

Manchester United youngster JJ Gabriel has been included in the first-team squad for Saturday's friendly against Atletico Madrid, with the 15-year-old hoping to earn a first senior appearance, while Altay Bayindir and Amad are also back from World Cup duty.

Michael Carrick has named a slightly smaller United squad to the groups that travelled to Helsinki to face Wrexham and then to Trondheim for last Friday's 5-0 win against Rosenborg.

That standard steps up a level this weekend, with Diego Simeone's side the opposition in Stockholm's Strawberry Arena, but those players who returned to first-team training this week haven't made the trip.

To get it, it's a simple one-two punch.

Altay Bayindir and Amad were both back at Carrington at the start of the week and are included in the travelling squad. Belgian duo Senne Lammens and Youri Tielemans checked in on Thursday, but this game has come too soon for them.

Gabriel is in the squad again, having been one of two outfield players who didn't get on against Rosenborg last weekend, alongside midfielder Jim Thwaites, who has been an unused substitute for both games so far.

Toby Collyer, Dan Gore, Jacob Devaney and Chido Obi drop out of the squad.

Defenders: Amass, Armer, Dorgu, Heaven, Kamason, Maguire, Shaw, Yoro.
