Manchester United closing in on double signing as defender nears exit

Manchester United are closing in on the signings of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.

United have had an offer rising to £42million accepted by Bayern Munich for De Ligt and United verbally agreed personal terms last month. The cost of De Ligt's fee will be spread over three years.

Bayern right back Mazraoui, 26, is also set to join for around £17m. United earmarked the Morocco international as a replacement for Aaron Wan-Bissaka earlier in the summer.

De Ligt, 24, worked with United manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax and Mazraoui also played under the Dutchman at the Amsterdam club.

Mazraoui is capable of playing at left back, as well as right back. Both of United’s senior left backs, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, are currently out injured.

Wan-Bissaka, 25, could pocket a £5.6m pay-off from United as he closes in on a move to West Ham United.

The right back has entered the final year of his United contract and the club are prepared to recompense Wan-Bissaka to make up for the shortfall in his salary at West Ham.
