Manchester United banner restored following vandalism from Galatasaray fans in Champions League tie

Manchester United’s famous ‘honour and glory’ Sir Matt Busby banner at Old Trafford has been refurbished and reinstated after part of it was torn down by Galatasaray fans after Tuesday's Champions League tie.

Members of the travelling contingent in the away end, who had just seen their side win 3-2, pulled down a section of the banner after full-time. One visiting fan is said to have attempted to walk out of the ground with it.

However, club staff have been praised for their role in retrieving the torn-off section, with the banner now fully restored and put back in place at the stadium. Prominent United fan group Stretford End Flags shared images of the banner back in situ and in one piece.

The group wrote on X, formerly called Twitter: “We shall not be moved! The torn-down section of the Sir Matt Busby "Honour and Glory" banner was retrieved from the away fan as he tried to leave OT with it.

“After a quick repair job it's back on the tier. Big [round of applause emoji] to all the #mufc staff who assisted in its retrieval and repair.”

Concerns over the ticketing system were raised post-match after groups of Galatasaray fans were spotted gathering together from areas of the home section. United have now launched an investigation into the matter after more than 1,000 away-supporting fans managed to get hands on tickets.
