Manchester United are only two signings away from their dream XI after Bryan Mbeumo breakthrough

After Manchester United lost last month's Europa League final in Bilbao, supporters would have been forgiven for feeling somewhat deflated heading into this summer's transfer window.

United's 1-0 defeat to Tottenham spelt the end of their hopes of qualifying for next season's Champions League. It means they will be absent from Europe for the first time since the 2014/15 campaign next term.

Despite that, United have started this summer's transfer window on the front foot. After wrapping up the signing of Wolves star Matheus Cunha earlier this month, they are now closing in on Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo.

After tabling a second offer in excess of £60million earlier this week, it is understood United are now making progress in their attempts to bring him to M16. The club hope to have him signed ahead of pre-season starting in just under a fortnight's time.

Mbeumo was nothing short of outstanding for Brentford last term, scoring 20 Premier League goals. He also contributed seven assists.

Although United have attempted to distance themselves from paying north of £60m for players under Ineos, they have made an exception to their own transfer rule with the addition of Cunha for £62.5m and their pursuit of Mbeumo.

However, the duo, who scored 35 Premier League goals between them last season, are Premier League proven and will slot straight into Ruben Amorim's first-choice starting XI. Cunha is expected to occupy the left-sided No.10 berth but where Amorim sees Mbeumo's natural habitat at Old Trafford remains to be seen.

Whether he starts as a No.10 or at wing-back, Amad will almost certainly fill the role Mbeumo does not. The Ivorian should be one of the very first names on the teamsheet next term after a very encouraging 2024/25
