Tenerife forward Jesús de Miguel has died after an on-field collision in a Spanish LaLiga 2 match Monday, his club announced. He was 30.
The Spanish striker suffered a cardiac arrest after a heavy collision with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono while challenging for a loose ball late in Monday's game. He was taken to hospital and admitted to intensive care.
On Tuesday morning, CD Tenerife said in a statement: «Broken with pain, with a lump in our throat and unable to believe that this is true, from CD Tenerife we announce the tragic passing of Jesús de Miguel Alameda this Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 8:00 a.m.
»There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing that can ease this profound sense of sadness. We stand with his devastated family, with his loved ones, and with the entire Tenerife football community, who today mourn this cruel turn of events.
«The family of Jesús de Miguel would like to thank everyone for their expressions of support and, from the bottom of their hearts, ask that their privacy be respected at this terrible time.»
The collision occurred in the seventh minute of stoppage time, with the game tied at 2-2, when Owono rushed out of his area all the way to midfield to challenge for a long ball that De Miguel was trying to reach. Owono was immediately sent off for the challenge.
Monday's game was suspended in order for the medical staff to treat the player, who was immediately taken by ambulance to hospital.
Tenerife said on Monday night the player was «stable, given the seriousness of the condition,» but gave an update earlier on Tuesday stating: «Jesús de Miguel's medical condition has deteriorated neurologically. Further information will follow in the coming hours.»
