Manchester United and Man City learn FA Cup third round opponents as draw confirmed

Manchester United and Manchester City have learned which teams they will face in the third round of the FA Cup next month.

The draw took place on Monday evening, with TNT Sports broadcasting the event ahead of the second-round tie between Brackley Town and Burton Albion.

United and City automatically earned a spot in the third round of the FA Cup due to being in the Premier League, and have now learned who they will face in the competition.

City have been drawn to face Exeter City with the tie taking place at the Etihad Stadium.

United, meanwhile, will take on Brighton with the draw confirming the tie will take place at Old Trafford against the Seagulls.

Third-round ties in the FA Cup are pencilled in to take place on the weekend of January 10/11, with the potential for some fixtures to move if selected for live television coverage.

Both United and City being drawn at home means at least one of the games will need to be moved for live television coverage that weekend, with the full schedule expected to be confirmed in due course.

United have already faced Brighton at Old Trafford this season, claiming a 4-2 victory in the Premier League back in October.

Matheus Cunha and Casemiro were both on the score sheet for the Reds, with summer signing Bryan Mbeumo netting a brace in the victory to secure all three points.

City will take on an Exeter team that are in 20th place in League One and have lost 10 of their 17 league matches so far this season.
