Manchester United already know how much it will cost them to solve obvious problem position

Manchester United will now switch their focus to the summer transfer window following their 2-1 FA Cup final defeat to Manchester City at Wembley on Saturday.

United brought the curtain down on their first season of the Erik ten Hag era with a narrow defeat to their cross-city rivals, meaning they could well be forced to stomach watching City complete a historic treble when they face Inter Milan in the Champions League final in Istanbul later this week. Goals from Ilkay Gundogan either side of a Bruno Fernandes penalty were enough to clinch a fully merited victory for the Blues.

The Dutchman said: "In this moment, I don't want to talk about such issues of criticism because we all played a great season, including David de Gea. He played a fantastic season."

When pressed on De Gea's distribution, Ten Hag added: "Say it like this: we are in the right direction. But there are occasions in the game, issues in the game, we have to improve, definitely, if we want to make the next step and win trophies."
