Manchester United academy boss Nick Cox sends message to supporters after FA Youth Cup win

Manchester United's head of academy, Nick Cox, has written an open letter to every supporter that attended Wednesday evening's FA Youth Cup final victory against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford.

United's Under-18s finally got their hands on the trophy for the first time since 2011 with a hard-fought 3-1 victory. Rhys Bennett netted the opening goal of the game before Josh Powell brought the visitors level just before the half-time interval.

However, United got their noses back in front courtesy of a controversial Alejandro Garnacho penalty. The Argentine then netted his second of the contest in injury time to secure the victory.

In front of a record-breaking crowd of 67,492, plus numerous current and former United stars, including former manager Sir Alex Ferguson, the youngsters ensured that the home faithful went home happy, whilst securing a special crown for the first time in 11 years. Academy chief Cox was delighted by the turnout at Old Trafford, thanking every single person who attended.

Cox said: "As head of academy, I have a duty to support the development of young players and in doing so ensure that we create amazing experiences that enrich their lives. At last night's FA Youth Cup final, you all played a huge part in creating the most amazing experience for all of these players, and for that you should be very proud.

"It is fair to say that the 'record' attendance, passion and atmosphere inside Old Trafford last night will stay with this group forever and stand every single one of our players in great stead for the remainder of their careers. It was a truly magical night and we have to thank you
